How to Get Confirmed Train Tickets During Chhath Puja 2026: Platform Guide
Chhath Puja 2026 train dates, IRCTC booking opening days & REGRET fixes for Bihar/UP routes. Split-ticket breaks for Delhi-Patna, Delhi-Darbhanga, Mumbai-Danapur with train numbers.
🚀 Chhath train on REGRET? Direct answer: check Get Confirmed Tickets on LastBerth Smart Seats for two confirmed halves of the same train (Delhi–Kanpur + Kanpur–Patna type).
Facts first — Chhath 2026 dates & booking days
Chhath dates: Nov 12 Nahay Khay → Nov 13 Kharna (kheer-roti night) → Nov 14 Sandhya Arghya (main sunset) → Nov 15 Usha Arghya sunrise. Reach Bihar/east UP by Nov 10–11 — help with ghat prep, eat Kharna kheer in peace. Return rush: Nov 16–22. My mama's family does this every November; my friend Pintu in Ludhiana says "Diwali miss ho jaye chalega, Chhath nahi." That's the feeling — and why this is tougher than Diwali itself.
Key rules:
- IRCTC opens 60 days before, 8:00 AM IST. Delhi–Patna/Muzaffarpur, Mumbai–Danapur quotas go in 30–60 seconds. I've refreshed at 8:00:45 and seen REGRET.
- REGRET = no more waitlists either. Online waitlist left after chart = auto-cancelled + refund, no journey. No ghat, no thekua. Don't board on it — Section 138 fine.
- Tatkal: 10 AM AC / 11 AM sleeper, day before. Chart: 4–8 hrs before origin departure.
Booking calendar (8 AM):
| Travelling for | Date | Book on |
|---|---|---|
| Reach early, settle down | Nov 10–11, Tue–Wed | Sept 11–12 |
| Nahay Khay Day 1 | Nov 12, Thursday | Sept 13 |
| Kharna Day 2 | Nov 13, Friday | Sept 14 |
| Sandhya Arghya (main day!) | Nov 14, Saturday | Sept 15 |
| Usha Arghya / Paran | Nov 15, Sunday | Sept 16 |
| Return rush | Nov 16–22 | Sept 17–23 |
Don't aim for Nov 12 travel — too tight. Nov 9–10 is my sweet spot, less crowd, time to help at home.
If direct is REGRET, do these 3 things
1. Split the same train. Railways divides berths by station quota — Delhi–Patna dead while Delhi–Kanpur + Kanpur–Patna sit empty, same train, same class. Smart Seats finds these. Two proper IRCTC tickets, two PNRs — TT checks first till Kanpur, second after. Attendants see this daily in Chhath week; my 62-year-old aunt did it last year. Extra cost? ~₹40 double reservation charge. Who cares during Chhath.
2. Book from origin, change boarding later. Small stations get tiny RLWL/PQWL pools that REGRET first; origin stations get big GNWL. Example: Aligarh REGRET but Anand Vihar (origin) confirmed → book from Anand Vihar, shift boarding to Aligarh on IRCTC (allowed till second chart, ~30 mins before). Keep both SMS handy — Patna-side network during Chhath is patchy, I screenshot + print one copy.
3. Check alternative route splits. When direct bookings show REGRET, check smart split-route combinations on Get Confirmed Tickets — intermediate stations often have empty confirmed berths waiting on the same train. Keep IRCTC logged in.
Two greens instead of one red REGRET — same train, shift berths midway.
Exact splits — with train numbers
Re-search your date (quotas move daily), but these breaks repeat every Chhath:
Delhi → Patna / Danapur (main corridor)
- Train 12394 Sampoorna Kranti Express, Sleeper + 3AC REGRET? Standard story.
- Break: NDLS → Kanpur Central (CNB) confirmed + Kanpur → PNBE confirmed. Same train. Book both on IRCTC, shift at Kanpur.
Delhi → Muzaffarpur / Darbhanga
- Train 12566 Bihar Sampark Kranti, NDLS → DBG, REGRET/WL 250+? Seen worse.
- Break: NDLS → Gorakhpur (GKP) confirmed + Gorakhpur → DBG confirmed. Gorakhpur halt is long enough for chai + leg-stretch. My cousin reached Darbhanga Kharna morning this way in 2024 — his mother cried. Real story.
North-Bihar splits usually break at Gorakhpur.
Mumbai → Danapur / Patna
- Train 12141 LTT → Patliputra, 3AC + Sleeper REGRET? Mumbai's Chhath crowd (Dadar, Kalyan, Thane) fills it fast.
- Break: LTT → Jabalpur (JBP) confirmed + Jabalpur → Patliputra/DNR confirmed. Same train. Jabalpur sounds random — that's exactly why seats sit empty there. Shuffle berths half-asleep, wake up in Bihar.
Mumbai splits look odd on map, feel normal in the train.
Booking steps — on your phone in 5 minutes
- Open LastBerth home. Works on cheap data.
- Enter origin, destination, Chhath date, class — e.g. NDLS → PNBE, Nov 10, SL. Check a day before/after too; Nov 9 vs 10 can be REGRET vs confirmed.
- If direct is red, open Smart Seats legs. My checks: same train number, same date, same class. Longer/tougher leg first on IRCTC (usually Kanpur–Patna), then the shorter one.
- Need guaranteed seats fast? Use Get Confirmed Tickets on LastBerth to search Smart Seats splits across intermediate stations and book before quotas sell out.
0-series Chhath specials (04078, 04068 types)? +10% 2S / +30% sleeper-AC, no senior-citizen discount, booking opens late (10–30 days before, after press notes). They saved my 2023 trip. Watch zone updates + search on LastBerth the day they drop.

FAQ — straight answers
Can I board with a waitlisted phone ticket?
No — if it's online and still waiting after chart, it's auto-cancelled and invalid. Refund in 2–4 days, but TTE fines you under Section 138 plus full embarrassment in front of the coach. Counter paper waitlists can sit in general dabba, but for Chhath just get confirmed splits instead. I celebrated one Chhath on video call after this mistake in 2021. Never again.
What are 0-number specials?
Extra festival trains (040xx etc.), special fare +10%/+30%, no concessions, booking opens 10–30 days before via press notes. Same rules for boarding/cancellation otherwise. If that's all that's confirmed — take it. Reaching the ghat Nov 14 beats saving ₹300.
Bottom line
Nov 14 sunset at the pond — mohalla gathered, folk songs, your mother holding the soop — worth this ticket headache. Search splits and find your guaranteed seats on Get Confirmed Tickets. Something usually opens.
Reach safe — and save me a thekua. Happy Chhath!
LastBerth is an independent seat-finder I use — not IRCTC or Railways, just reads quotas better.
